About DOVVSU

The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service, originally called Women and Juvenile Unit (WAJU) was established in October 1998. It was to handle all cases of abuse against women and children in conflict with the law. The name WAJU was formerly changed to DOVVSU in October 2005 to ensure that the needs of men and other members who suffer domestic abuse are addressed.

Mandate:

  • Investigate All Domestic Violence Related Cases and Cases of Child Abuse
  • To Handle All Cases Involving Juveniles
  • To link survivors of Abuse with other support services
  • Arrest And Prosecute Offenders / Perpetrators
